The anchor of airport noise compatibility planning is insuring that activities proposed in the vicinity are compatible with the noise environment. The screen is a dynamic illustration of the land use compatibility matrix used by the FAA and other federal agencies.
How to Use Compatibility
The screen has the functionality of a land use map display system (GIS). You can turn display layers on and off using the screen's controls. The vertical row of selectors on the right side of the screen displays the various land uses. The "Airport Expansion Scenarios" selector at the bottom of the screen is used to select different noise contour base maps. |
When the Compatibility pop-up is displayed it can be used to show land uses according to whether they are compatible with the noise exposure associated with the expansion scenario or whether they are conditionally compatible or not compatible. |
The first screen is an aerial view. As you select the land uses on the right, their corresponding color appears on the map in the appropriate area. The "All Land Uses" button found at the top position among the land use selections will select (or once selected, deselect) all land uses. After choosing a scenario, click the "Show Compatibility Selector". Click the "eye" icon next the layer you do not want to appear. Click again to make layer visible. As you pass the cursor over activated land uses, the compatibility decibel level appears. |
